We knew we liked J and M the minute we met up them at a cafe in Brooklyn. For starters, they are beautiful to look at, but also radiate this joy that is completely infectious. And that’s exactly what their wedding was all about. Them, their joy, and the most important people in their lives who travelled from all around the world to celebrate with them. They got ready together at their apartment, with J in the bathroom and M in the bedroom, just one hour before their ceremony under the Brooklyn bridge. Their ceremony was a mere 5 minutes, just long enough for everyone to gather around them and hear them exchange vows. No muss, no fuss, just love. And this is exactly what we love about them.

J&V have agreed to let us share photos from their wedding day, but have asked that we protect their privacy. So while that means I must be brief and scarce in the details, I will tell you this: V picked up J at the Harvard dorm for their first date and they were married right next door at Memorial Church on campus. I love it when things come full circle!

Candice and Marco’s wedding, simply put, was a grandiose ballroom affair with the heart and soul of an intimate backyard wedding. With Donald Trump’s wedding as her inspiration, Candice, along with the incredible team at Maddy K, used a sea of flowers to play up the Windsor Ballroom‘s old world elegance. Yet the undertone of this elaborate affair remained down-to-earth, just like Candice and Marco themselves. Candice floated through her day without a care in the world and Marco, a football player for the Alouettes, tugged at our heartstrings every time he looked at his bride. The love in his eyes whenever he held her head in his hands… well, let’s just say it was a pleasant surprise to see this from such a tough jock (sorry Marco, I couldn’t keep that to myself, you’re just too darn sweet!).

Candice and Marco also chose lovely ways to honor the memory of both their fathers. They were beautiful moments throughout the day; from a quiet prayer before the ceremony to a dance with their mothers dedicated to the dads, which reminded everyone of their presence.

This day was truly a pleasure and joy to photograph, and we’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience every emotion this day had to offer. With our own wedding behind us, I’m glad that the appreciation of what we do for a living is only enhanced by having lived the experience ourselves. In life, you can plan and plan and plan, but you never know what unexpected things might pop into your life and change everything. Maryam and Nabil were hoping for a big wedding in Maryam’s native Venezuela, but a little change in plans came along… in the form of a baby bump. They have of course embraced this unexpected surprise, and opted for a low-key, Montreal wedding with their closest friends and family by their side. Small weddings tend to be our favorites to photograph, as they are often more focussed on love and emotion rather than the grandness of the event, and this wedding was no exception. With Maryam’s Venezuelan roots and Nabil’s Lebanese background, we knew we could count on the party being a wild one – even with the small guest count. And boy were we ever right! The small dance floor, always bursting at the seams with happy dancers, forced us to get right in there and view the party from a different angle. We’re always grateful for a kick outside our comfort zone, and this was certainly a welcome one.

After a bit of a long hiatus (we have a good excuse: we were off getting hitched ourselves! But more on that later…), we’re happy to share our favorites from Maryam and Nabil’s wedding.

It seems fitting that Grace and Yitao flew us halfway around the world to photograph their wedding. Airplanes have played a big role in their relationship, from the very beginning when Grace caught Yitao’s eye on a flight to Shanghai. It wasn’t until they ran into each other at a club in that same city that they finally had the chance to meet, starting with Yitao bolding saying, “Remember me? We were on the same flight!” There were going to be many more flights in their future, with Yitao living in San Francisco and Grace living in Taipei, but eventually the two moved to San Francisco… and then eventually back to Taipei again! – so they could be together.

Throughout the craziness that surrounds a wedding, Grace and Yitao made it a priority to show us around their city for the few days that followed and preceded their wedding day. It was like having our own personal tour guides who made sure we ate our way through the city. And did we ever eat! At this very moment, I am desperately craving some world famous dumplings from Din Tai Fung. Mmmmm….

Grace and Yitao, thank you so much for entrusting your wedding photos to us and for giving us such a great tour of your wonderful city. And THANK YOU for going to karaoke after your wedding – it certainly was a highlight for us to witness, document, and yes, even experience!
