We first met Tavia and Ruben during our roadtrip last winter when they offered to host us in San Diego. It felt so natural to hang out with them and we had the best time, especially during our engagement session, where we really saw their personalities shine! Since then, Daniel and I have looked forward to Tavia’s emails; always filled to the brim with her hilarious wit. She’s been a great source of entertainment when we’ve needed a distraction from our long working days in the studio.

We are so happy that they chose us to photograph their awesome wedding in Santa Barbara. We totally fell in love with the place and of course, we were already very much in love with Tavia and Ruben!

When Jessica and Jason picked us to photograph their wedding, it was a particularly big honor, seeing as how Jessica is a fellow Montreal wedding vendor. She makes the most delicious and beautiful cakes and we’ve had the pleasure of working with her several times in the past. She even made our engagement party cake which was a huge hit with our friends and family!

We also happen to know that Jessica and Jason make a beautiful bride and groom, as they were our models for the style me pretty photoshoot we did a while back with Unity Weddings (who also worked on their wedding). This actually made photographing their real wedding a little odd at first, but it was great to see their personalities and personal style shine through this time around. They opted for a trendy, lounge-y, cocktail evening wedding with THREE wedding cakes (made by Jessica of course) and lots of Beatles tunes. It was such a refreshingly different vibe which really suited these two.

Melanie + Alex | Montreal, QC

We could not have asked for anything more from Melanie and Alex’s engagement session. It was rainy and cold that morning, but it cleared up and warmed up a few hours before our scheduled meeting time. We had the whole apple orchard to ourselves – well, us and the goats of course. And these goats even cooperated in creating framing for a few of our photos. We enjoyed the fresh air, the scent of apples in the air, AND I got to climb a tree! Oh, and Melanie and Alex were up for anything, including some frolicking in the apple-dotted grass (fact: apples do not make a comfortable bed). It was such a fantastic way to spend the last official day of the summer.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have an apple crumble to make!

When Marina and Hicham started planning their wedding, there was one guest who they hadn’t accounted for… their soon-to-be son, Julien. Needless to say, in the midst of the craziness that is wedding planning, it was quite a surprise for both of them to discover they were expecting a child! After postponing the wedding to start their family, when the wedding day did come around, Julien was an integral part of the day. Even when he wasn’t around, his presence was felt through the incredible bond his parents have. This little family is so full of love, it was just a pleasure to spend the day with them.

Marina, Hicham and Julien live in Morocco and Daniel and I can’t wait to take them up on their offer for a visit!
In the meantime, here are a few of our favorite photos of the day:

  • Kevin Keefer: wonderful! my fave is #8 (09.26.2010 07:15pm)
  • Richard from Purplest: Outstanding work once again! Love the flared ones! (09.26.2010 10:44pm)
  • Steve young: A really nice set guys! (09.26.2010 11:05pm)
  • Sarah Neal: #1... are you serious!? How do you manage to turn out so many pieces of perfect art out from every wedding?? (09.27.2010 07:54am)
  • Sasha: Rock on, guys!!! Awesome photos! (09.27.2010 09:40am)
  • ed atrero: word! (09.27.2010 01:33pm)
  • John: Mind Blowingly good. Seriously. Love your work. (09.30.2010 03:37pm)

Alana + Eric | August 22nd 2010 | Montreal, QC

The month of August has been by far our busiest one the summer so we apologize for being slow on posts lately!

Alana and Eric’s wedding was one of many for us at the Montreal Science Center. It’s definitely a challenge for us to make it different for each couple, but that’s part of the fun too! I know the gloomy, rainy weather was a disappointment for Alana and Eric, but I have to admit that it gave the venue a different look, one that I found very cozy and romantic. I never wish for rain on anyone’s wedding day (I would never do that to our brides!), but let’s just say I’m never sad to see it either!

Alana joked that she initially wanted a barn, country wedding and that her mother, who played a big part in the planning of the wedding, “definitely captured that feel.” Having had the chance to spend the day with Alana and Eric, I’m convinced that they would have been blissfully happy getting married anywhere.

Here are our favorites from their wedding:

  • Kip: These images just split my brain in half. Uh-mazing use of negative space and light. (09.20.2010 11:43am)
  • Brandon Wong: Last shot and second shot blew my mind. Always amazing sets guys. (09.20.2010 11:59am)
  • monique simone weston: The last shot needs to be submitted to some contest somewhere, and if it does not win, let me know and I will deal with the judges! (09.20.2010 12:32pm)
  • adam Kealing: AAAAAAAAAAAAAMAZING!!! Last shot and the one with the groom walking in with the umbrella... epic. all of them. epic. (09.20.2010 01:37pm)
  • Rich Smith: Have to comment on a blog post with a bride named "Alana"! That's my daughters name and don't run across it too much. Love your photos from their wedding and Alana is stunning! Amazing job as always! (09.20.2010 02:06pm)
  • daniel usenko: sick, as always (09.20.2010 07:29pm)
  • Julian Abram Wainwright: Been admiring your work from afar for a while guys. Great to see you exploring new moves, while tweaking and perfecting your "go to" frames. The off-camera flash is wicked! Always a pleasure to spend some time on your blog. Great stuff! (09.20.2010 07:39pm)
  • Gardner Hamilton: as always you guys rock...and getting 1000 de gaucheter in the photo...great location indication for downtown Montreal...awesome shots guys good luck from your fan in Chile Gardner Hamilton www.weddingphotochile.com (09.20.2010 08:16pm)
  • Kevin Wrenn Photography: Love the one with the groom and the umbrella being held. Also love the one of the bride holding the grooms hand with the blue in foreground. The guy with the mike...wow that is awesome! Nice work you guys! (09.20.2010 11:53pm)
